History of Trinity Baptist Church

Trinity Baptist Church of Concord, NC began with 57 people meeting together for Bible study at the Hampton Inn on January 15, 2006. These 57 people requested Rev. Ken Staley lead the Bible study. They were unified in their desire to reach people for Jesus Christ. The average attendance quickly grew. Before long, the Bible study became an incorporated Southern Baptist church, with Rev. Ken Staley called to be the first Pastor. He served until January 2007. From the Hampton Inn the church moved to 984 Copperfield Blvd. in the summer of 2006.

At the church’s first anniversary celebration there were 110 in attendance with 98 being members. Rev. LG Eaves served as the interim pastor from January through December 2007. The church purchased property in October 2007 at 7400 Flowes Store Road for a permanent church home and began planing for a multi-purpose building as the first phase. A three-year capital campaign was organized to fund the land and future building plan as God's timing prescribed. After a diligent search, the church voted to call Rev. Rod Denny as the full time pastor beginning in January 2008.

The church, in mid 2008, voted to move their temporary home to a larger facility located in the Southgate Shopping Center near the intersection of Highways 601 and 49. After completion of upfit and renovations, the church moved to this location in December 2008. Not only did the facility provide more space, it would be closer to the permanent church home and provide the ability to minister to the lost in that community. The church grew in numbers and was recognized for strong Biblical preaching, loving outreach, and an excellent children’s ministry.

Rev. Denny, in November 2010, tendered his resignation as full time pastor effective December 31, 2010. At the request of the congregation, Rev. Denny continued as Sunday Supply Minister thru March 2011. This provided lay leadership time to arrange for additional supply ministers and seek a Transitional Pastor. Also a Pastor Search Committee was formed in February 2011, voted on by the congregation, and charged with the responsibility to seek God’s guidance to find the full time pastor that was God’s choice for Trinity at that time.

Convinced that God had led them to the pastor of His choice, the Pastor Search Committee recommended to the church on November 06, 2011 to call Rev. Ken Staley back as Senior Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church. The church affirmed this recommendation with a 95% favorable vote.

Beliefs of Trinity

About God - God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

About the Father – He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and all wise. He reigns with providential care over the universe and the flow of human history goes according to His purposes and plan.

About Jesus – Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus has eternally existed and became man at His incarnation. He lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He bodily arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

About the Holy Spirit – He is the third person of the Trinity. He guides men into all truth, exalts Christ, convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment, cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, bestows, spiritual gifts by which believers serve God and seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. His presence in the lives of believers is the assurance of God to bring us into the fullness of the stature of Christ.

About Scriptures – The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it has salvation for its end and is truth without any mixture of error.

About Human Beings – People are made in the image of God and are the supreme object of God’s creation. All of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. Sin separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

About Salvation – Salvation is God’s free gift to us obtained by His grace through faith. We can never be good enough to earn favor with God. Only by believing in Jesus Christ and turning from our sins can we be saved.

About Eternal Security – Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot "lose" your salvation. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

About Eternity – People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separate from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

About Baptism by Immersion – We believe that scriptural baptism must be: (1)by being completely immersed under the water and (2) after salvation. Jesus was immersed and all baptisms in the New Testament were by immersion. These two facts set the standard for baptism today. Baptism has no saving power but is the first act of obedience symbolizing (1) the believer’s faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, (2) the believer’s death to sin and resurrection to walk anew in Christ and (3) the Christian’s belief that he will die, be buried, and that Jesus will resurrect him from the dead.

About the Lord’s Supper – The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby believers remember the death of the Lord Jesus and anticipate His second Coming. The bread is symbolic of His body and the juice represents His blood.

About Tithing – We believe in giving the tithe – ten percent of our gross income – as the biblical standard of giving. The tithe is to be given as an undesignated offering to the "storehouse" ministry of a local church. According to the Scriptures, we are to give cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally for the advancement of the Redeemer’s cause on earth.

About Evangelism – It is the duty of every born again follower of Jesus Christ and of every church to endeavor to make disciples of all men everywhere. It is the command of Christ for every believer to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by personal effort and by all other methods in harmony with the gospel of Christ.

About the Church – A New Testament church of Jesus Christ is a local body of baptized believer who are associated by their common faith and fellowship with Jesus. A local church is to observe the two ordinances: (1) baptism and (2) the Lord’s Supper. The church should exercise their God-given gifts and extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. The church is an autonomous body serving under the Lordship of Christ. All members are equally responsible as they serve with the scriptural officers of the church the pastors and deacons.

About Christian Unity – To live in harmony with other believers is clearly the teaching of the New Testament. It is the responsibility of each believer to endeavor to live in fellowship with each member of the congregation. It is further the responsibility of each member to bring all gossiping and backbiting to an end.

Ministry of Trinity

At Trinity every member is expected to be an active part of the body for two reasons:

1) God has created us with distinct purposes and gifts that are equally important in building up the body
 Reference 1 Corinthians 12:12-31

2) If you choose to be inactive the body suffers and God is not glorified in your life
 Reference 1 Corinthians 12:26; Ephesians 4:16

How we do ministry is also important to consider. We should ask ourselves, in what effort is God most pleased and glorified, 40%, 60% or 110%? A common statement at Trinity is, "let’s do everything with excellence."

Mission of Trinity

Our mission comes from Matthew 28:19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." We find three important truths in His commission:

1. Evangelize sinners – go therefore and make disciples of all nations…

2. Equip the Saints – teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you…

3. Exalt the Savior – in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…

The mission steers the vision of our church. Everything we do is filtered through this mission. For example, when we consider doing an event, does it evangelize or equip? If not, we choose to focus our energies elsewhere, in things that ultimately fulfill our Lord’s plan for the church.

In short, Trinity Baptist is About the Father’s Business in Cabarrus County. We seek to be a growing, active body of believers continually engaging the community with the gospel of Jesus Christ through events and quality services that glorify the Lord. Therefore, it is our intent to follow this vision by constructing a multipurpose building on Flowes Store Road property, as soon as possible, to accommodate Sunday worship, Midweek services, as well as other activities like Upwards sports, evangelistic banquets and special events.
